SandLand

Construction

SandLand presented by Northumberland Ferries will be constructed in May and June 2007 using over 1 million pounds of Island sand.

The sculptures are sprayed with a water/glue substance so that they are durable in inclement weather. SandLand will be a gated attraction open until September 30th.

SandLand will be constructed by Canada’s Own World Sand Sculpting Champions working with PEI Sand Sculptors and local labor. There will be six professional sculptors working with Peter Vogelaar, the Master Sand Sculptor. Peter has been responsible for the amazing snow sculptures and snow kingdom constructed during the popular Jack Frost Children’s WinterFest which takes place each winter in Charlottetown.

There are many sand sculpture festivals around the world. They are very popular in Europe with sand festivals in the Netherlands (Almere and Thorn), Belgium (Zeebrugge, Bruges), North of France (Hardelot), Germany (Travemunde), China (Zhousan), and Great Britain (Great Yarmouth, Brighton). In Canada, Harrison Hot Springs has the largest sand sculpture attraction in North America.  SandLand will be the largest sand show east of British Columbia.
