Canadian Rockers NICKELBACK Headline the Atlantic Superstore Festival of Lights

(Charlottetown, PE – April 26, 2007) Canada’s multi-platinum rock sensation ~ Nickelback will headline this year’s Atlantic Superstore Festival of Lights on Saturday, June 30th along with Staind and another act yet to be announced.

 

Nickelback has sold over 23 million albums to date and is 5 x platinum in both Canada and the U.S. They have won 7 Billboard awards, have 9 Juno Awards to date, were named the World’s Best Rock Band at the World Music Awards and have won a People’s Choice Award for Best Group. Nickelback’s recent album “All the Right Reasons” is 5 x platinum and has won an American Music Award for Favorite Pop/Rock Album. Released October 2005, All The Right Reasons debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Top 200 Albums Chart and to date, has yielded five #1 singles. After 80 weeks on the albums chart, All the Right Reasons remains in the Top 20.

 

We monitor our website requests very closely and Nickelback is consistently the “most requested band”, states Kim Green, CEO of Tourism Charlottetown. “The Atlantic Superstore Festival of Lights, with only 10,000 tickets sold, allows festival-goers the unique opportunity to be up close and personal on the beautiful Historic Charlottetown Waterfront which has firmly established itself as the place to celebrate the Canada Day long weekend.”

 

The acts for Friday, June 29th are also confirmed featuring Finger Eleven and Buckcherry along with another act yet to be named. Finger Eleven is on a high with their new single “Paralyzer” enjoying 12 weeks as number one on R&R Canada Rock National Airplay. Buckcherry follows closely behind with their smash hit “Everything” currently 12 weeks on the R&R Canada Rock National Airplay currently at number four.

 

Weekend Passports to the Atlantic Lottery Concert Series will go on-sale in mid-May and will be only $49 (a savings of $21) + service fee and taxes. Passports include admission to two nights of Concerts – Six Amazing Acts – all live – up close and personal – on the Historic Charlottetown Waterfront. Friday night tickets featuring Finger Eleven and Buckcherry are $30 + service fees and taxes and tickets for Nickelback on Saturday are $40 + service fee and taxes. The Atlantic Superstore Festival of Lights has sold out the last several years so festival-goers are encouraged to reserve their tickets early.

Background:
The Atlantic Superstore Festival of Lights is the largest multi-day Canada Day celebration east of Ottawa. The event features the largest fireworks display in Atlantic Canada as well as the Atlantic Lottery Concert Series featuring live outdoor concerts on the Historic Charlottetown Waterfront. Last year marked the 11th anniversary of the celebration, with over 81,745 visits and an estimated economic impact of $4.8 million to the provincial economy. The Atlantic Superstore Festival of Lights is a project of Tourism Charlottetown, and the official kick-off to summer on Prince Edward Island.

New for 2007 Catch the magic of sand sculpture at SandLand June 30 – September 30, 2007

Be amazed by the creations of Canada’s own World Champion Sand Sculpting Team, as they create Canada’s largest sand show east of British Columbia.  Having wowed audiences around the world, they will now carve 2 million pounds of sand into a unique view of PEI characters, architecture, history and drama...all on the Historic Charlottetown Waterfront.

 

SandLand will be constructed in May and June 2007 and use approximately 2 million pounds of sand.  Once constructed the sculptures are sprayed with a water/glue substance so that they are durable in inclement weather.

 

The grand opening of SandLand will take place June 30th, 2007.  Be part of our press trip and be amongst the first to experience SandLand.

 

PEI International Shellfish Festival September 14-16, 2007
