Record Breaking Numbers for Canadian Antiques Roadshow in Charlottetown

(Charlottetown, PE – June 7, 2007) – The Canadian Antiques Roadshow filmed four episodes yesterday on the Historic Charlottetown Waterfront at Confederation Landing Park.  For the second time in history the show was filmed outdoors in a tent. Over 4,000 tickets were given away for the taping of the show, the most tickets the Canadian Antiques Roadshow has ever given for a taping to date.

“Tickets went faster for Charlottetown than anywhere else in Canada. The response has been outstanding,” exclaims Holly Fitzpatrick, Publicist, Canadian Antiques Roadshow. “Not only the response to the show, but the warm reception to our crew. Since they arrived to the Island on Monday they have not stopped raving about the genuine kindness of every Islander they have met.”

1,835 visitors came from all over Atlantic Canada to have their treasures appraised, bringing such items as a miniature steam engine train (that runs using coal); paintings, furniture, and Native artifacts. The highest appraisal was given to a painting valued at $30,000. Charlottetown was the last taping for the Canadian Antiques Roadshow across Canada tour.

John Brazill, Executive Producer, Canadian Antiques Roadshow says, “There has been a real strong local character here. A lot of Island history; exactly what we hope for, for the show.  We have also seen a lot of generational pieces, items which have been in families for years.”

“Charlottetown was thrilled to host such a prestigious event,” says Kim Green, CEO, Tourism Charlottetown and the PEI Convention Partnership. “There is no doubt this national exposure, introducing Canada to the heritage & culture here, will generate off-Island visitation to Charlottetown and Prince Edward Island.”

Tourism Charlottetown was pleased to be a major partner in bringing this production of the Canadian Antiques Roadshow to the city.
