Charlottetown Travels to Halifax Where Atlantic Canada’s Favorite Magazine Saltscapes Comes Alive.
(Charlottetown, PE, April 25, 2007) – Tourism Charlottetown is heading to Halifax, Nova Scotia this weekend to participate in Atlantic Canada’s biggest Travel Leisure show – Saltscapes East Coast Expo, April 27-29, 2007, where the best of Atlantic Canada is on display. Tourism Charlottetown, along with several of their partners is heading to the show re-creating a Charlottetown streetscape, providing potential visitors with the opportunity to Walk and Sea Charlottetown, listen, taste, and experience the many accommodations and attractions PEI’s capital city has to offer.
Attending Saltscapes East Coast Expo with Tourism Charlottetown is the Confederation Centre of the Arts, The Great George, The Gahan House Pub & Brewery, The Delta Prince Edward, Canadian Golf Academy, Rodd Charlottetown - A Rodd Signature Hotel, The PEI International Shellfish Festival, and Charlottetown’s newest attraction - SandLand, and the PEI Jazz and Blues Festival.
“According to the Hotel Association of PEI, 37% of the rooms sold in Charlottetown in 2006 were sold to residents of Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, says Tracey Singleton, Director of Marketing for Tourism Charlottetown. “This represents an increase of 7% over 2005. With the price of gas and passport regulations, travelers are staying closer to home, making Charlottetown the ideal sell to the rest of the Maritimes as a destination offering a unique urban environment, right on water. Whether a visitor is looking to relax seaside or a traveler is looking to take in history, culture and world-class entertainment, Charlottetown is the destination that meets these needs.”
Saltscapes East Coast Expo targets a consumer driven demographic of females, boomer families, and empty nesters. The average household income of the consumer is 75,000 plus home owners who are knowledgeable and cultured. During the Saltscapes East Coast Expo 10,000 people passed through the show 72 % of last years visitors to the show were from Nova Scotia and 17% were from New Brunswick. Tourism Charlottetown will entice these visitors to put Charlottetown on their list of places to visit this year.
Tourism Charlottetown is attending Saltscapes East Coast Expo as part of a Tourism PEI contingent, along with North Cape Coastal Drive, Points East Coastal Drive, Cavendish Beach & the Dunes Shores, South Shore Tourism Group Inc. as well as Island representatives from the craft, festival, attractions, food and accommodations sectors.
While in Halifax, Tourism Charlottetown will also be hosting a Regional Media Event. Officially launching their new website www.walkandseacharlottetown.com, announcing SandLand, letting people know when the British are invading Charlottetown, and sharing with everyone the exciting new happenings taking place in Charlottetown for 2007.
Also in Halifax this week is the Prince Edward Island Convention Partnership.
