Charlottetown Thinks Outside the Sandbox as they Unveil When the British will Invade, Tell the Secrets of the Festivals and Give you a Taste of PEI’s Capital City.
(Charlottetown, PE, April 26, 2007) – Tourism Charlottetown is gearing up for an exciting summer season. With the launching of their new brand Walk & Sea Charlottetown and their new website www.walkandseacharlottetown.com Charlottetown is set for what will be the busiest summer yet! This year catch the magic of sand sculpture! Be amazed by the creations of Canada's own World Champion Sand Sculpting Team as they create Canada's largest Sand show east of British Columbia. Having wowed audiences around the world, they will now carve over a million pounds of Island sand into a unique view of PEI. Characters, architecture, history and drama, all at SandLand presented by Northumberland Ferries! The official opening of SandLand will take place on June 30th during the Atlantic Superstore Festival of Lights and run until September 30th, 2007.
Atlantic Superstore Festival of Lights is Canada's Largest Birthday Celebration east of Ottawa featuring the Atlantic Lottery Concert Series with live outdoor concerts on the waterfront, Aliant International Buskers, Children's Village; Kent Building Supplies Concert for Canada and the largest fireworks display in Atlantic Canada. Stay tuned, Tourism Charlottetown is days away from announcing this years concert line-up and final programming for the capital city’s longest concert weekend June 29 to July 1.
PEI Jazz & Blues Festival proudly announces a parade of Canadian music legends to headline this summer's PEI Jazz and Blues Festival, presented by Atlantic Turbines. The Festival will run from July 5-8 in downtown Charlottetown. Headlining the festival will be the iconic Downchild Blues Band, jazz great Phil Nimmons, keyboard virtuoso Doug Riley and Maritime blues/rocker Matt Minglewood. The Jazz & Blues Festival’s line up will also include an impressive list of established Canadian talent: acclaimed pianist David Braid, blues/world guitarist Harry Manx, guitar/mandolin virtuoso Kevin Breit (who records and performs with the likes of Norah Jones, Holly Cole and Rosanne Cash). Prince Edward Island is pleased to announce the Legendary U.S. rock band Aerosmith, will play the Charlottetown Driving Park Entertainment Centre on Saturday, July 21st. Aerosmith is headlining a 10-hour show. Tickets for the Aerosmith concert go on sale April 28, at 10 a.m.in Charlottetown, Montague, Summerside, by phone at 902-629-6625, and online at www.blastatthebeach.com. Regular priced tickets are $59.50 and VIP tickets are $199. Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island is one of only four North American cities on Aerosmith's summer world tour. The British are invading The Charlottetown Festival, which runs from June 18 to September 29. The festival opens with Canada’s longest running musical Anne of Green Gables - The Musical™, back for its 43rd season on the Mainstage. Based on L.M. Montgomery’s novel about a young orphan in search of a home, the show plays on selected dates until September 29. But, hitting the stage June 19 to August 31 is The British Invasion, a musical revue created by Allan, Nevin Grant and Howard Pechet, with musical supervision by Bob Foster will take you to 1964 when the Beatles burst onto the North American music scene. This production focuses on the huge impact that British artists have had on the industry in North America. Having played to sell-out audiences in Calgary and Toronto, The British Invasion comes to the Charlottetown Mainstage to rock you away!
The International Prince Edward Island Shellfish is the "Biggest Kitchen Party in Atlantic Canada" boasting Good Friends, Good Times, Good Music and Lots of World Famous Prince Edward Island Shellfish. Former Masters Champions World Golf Hall of Famer Vijay Singh and Canadian Mike Weir will play the 2007 Making the Connection Legends of Golf event in Prince Edward Island July 29 and 30. Tickets for the Making the Connection Legends of Golf are $60 (plus tax) with a special 50 per cent discount for junior fans under the age of 16. Tickets will go on sale in early May through Ticketweb. The first edition of the event, held last June at Dundarave Golf Course at The Rodd Brudenell River Resort, featured what many considered to be the greatest rivalry the game has seen - Jack Nicklaus and Tom Watson, playing before 7,200 spectators over the two-day event. This year's event promises to be another great event featuring two of the most recognized international players in the world.
