Somewhere in Prince Edward Island’s south shore region, 4 weekend passes to the Jack Frost Children’s WinterFest are waiting to be found but in order to locate them, treasure hunters will need a GPS unit.  To make it even more challenging, the GPS coordinates where the “Jack the Nipper” cache is hidden and will not be made public until 6:00 pm on Friday, February 6, 2009.

“The Jack Frost Children’s WinterFest passes have been placed in a plastic container which has been hidden by the South Shore Tourism Group,” says Bill Kendrick of the SSTG. “The cache coordinates will be released on www.geocaching.com. The first person to find our cache will get the passes”

The Jack the Nipper cache has been created by the South Shore Tourism Group which has also developed a special geocaching event as part of the annual winter festival in Charlottetown.  Kendrick says the “Knight’s Quest” will take place February 14 & 15 from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm starting at Founders’ Hall- Canada’s Birthplace Pavilion. 

“It’s been designed for people who have never tried geocaching to give them an idea of how much fun it is.  We will have GPS units available for people to rent and we’ll be providing instruction on how to use them but for those who don’t want to use the technology, there will also be clues and maps that can be followed,” says Kendrick.  “The Knight’s Quest will take about 45 minutes and leads people through downtown Charlottetown in search of hidden clues that will lead to a royal treasure.”
