Delta Air Lines to fly direct to Charlottetown from New York City

(Charlottetown, PE, February 19, 2008) - The Charlottetown Airport Authority announced today that it has reached confirmation from Delta Air Lines that new direct, non-stop flights will be provided this summer from JFK International Airport in New York City to Charlottetown.

Beginning June 13th and continuing until September 7th, Delta Air Lines regional partner Comair will add new weekend flights, on a 50 seat CRJ jet aircraft, for direct non-stop service between New York City and Charlottetown. Direct flights will be inbound on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and outbound, with two on Saturday and one on Sunday.

As well, Delta Air Lines partner Comair, will once again be providing daily direct service, seven days per week, from Charlottetown to Boston.

“New York City has been a target location for us for a number of years”, said Gordon MacInnis, Chair of the Charlottetown Airport Authority. “The research shows this destination as having tremendous potential – both in terms of the local market as well as the heavy volume of connecting flights offered at JFK. We thank Delta Air Lines for adding this new destination and building on their capacity in their second season in Charlottetown,” added MacInnis. “I am sure that in addition to the Visitors coming in from the U.S. – there will likely be a lot of Islanders who will take advantage of this easy way to see the Big Apple.”

“We are very pleased with the announcement of these additional flights”, added Valerie Docherty, Minister of Tourism. “We are confident that long haul visitors will appreciate and take advantage of the increasing air service to PEI. Our Government has been working closely with the Airport Authority and it is rewarding to see the fruits of this hard work continue to pay off with positive results.”

This summer visitors can fly direct to Charlottetown from Halifax, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Detroit, Boston and now New York City by carriers Air Canada Jazz, WestJet, Sunwing, Northwest Airlines and Delta Air Lines.
