Air Canada Adding New Route to Ottawa

(Charlottetown, PE, November 28, 2007) – The Charlottetown Airport Authority reacted very positively to today’s announcement by Air Canada to expand air service, with a new, daily direct Air Canada Jazz flight from Ottawa to Charlottetown.

Earlier Wednesday morning, Air Canada announced the new year round service. The daily non-stop Charlottetown to Ottawa service is scheduled to start May 1, 2008.

The new Ottawa flight is in addition to the non-stop services Air Canada Jazz currently offers to Halifax, Montreal and Toronto.

“Fantastic news”, said Doug Newson, Airport CEO, “We are enjoying a record breaking year for passengers and we are glad to see Air Canada being so responsive to consumer demand with this additional service. Non-stop service to our nation's capital has been a major priority for the airport for some time.  We very much appreciate that Air Canada recognizes PEI market demand for Ottawa direct service.”

“We look forward to working with Air Canada to make sure the new service is well publicized and is successful. The exciting part of this announcement is that this particular route is in demand from all of our markets - Business, Government and Leisure travel on a year round basis. There are many Federal, and Provincial Officials, as well as private businesses that need to make monthly trips to the nation’s capital. This service will make it even easier and more convenient for them to do so from Charlottetown.” said Newson.

"This additional flight to Ontario will be of major benefit to the traveling public," Premier Robert Ghiz. "These additional connections help both the business traveler and visitors, and I am very pleased that all of the players were able to work together make this happen."

The new service will begin May 1, 2008 flights are scheduled to depart Ottawa at 11:00 a.m. Eastern Time and arrive in Charlottetown at 1:40 P.M. Return flights will depart at 2:15 P.M and arrive at 3:05 Ottawa time. Air Canada plans to use a 50 seat regional jet.  Seats are available for sale immediately.

“I want to thank our traveling public for requesting this service, Air Canada for fulfilling the demand, and the Premier and his staff for their support”, said Cliff Campbell, Chairman of the Charlottetown Airport Authority. “Certainly, we are very pleased with our partnership with the Province of PEI as we work together to enhance services from all our air carriers. This will help us to continue to grow.” added Campbell.
