Prince Edward Island Ranks 6TH On Condé Nast Traveler's Top Islands

CHARLOTTETOWN, PEI -- Condé Nast Traveler, a leading consumer travel magazine, released their 20th Annual Readers’ Choice Awards and listed Prince Edward Island as number six in the top ten North American Islands.

Among the other winners were Vancouver, Nantucket, Gulf Islands, Sanibel, Kiawah, Amelia Island, Hilton Among the other winners were Vancouver, Nantucket, Gulf Islands, Sanibel, Kiawah, Amelia Island, Hilton Head, San Juan Islands and Captiva.

The magazine has won numerous National Magazine Awards and has a circulation of well over 800,000.  This year, survey questionnaires were provided to all readers with 28,104 responses captured.  In the North American section of the Islands category, average scores were tabulated for Activities, Atmosphere/Ambience, Beaches, Friendliness, Lodging, Restaurants, and Scenery.  Prince Edward Island was given a score of 70.9, sixth in the top ten.

“The readers of Condé Nast Traveler reflect active travellers and, as such, reflect a great honour being ranked number six in their poll,” said Minister of Tourism, Valerie Docherty.  “Not only have we captured a great response from readers who have visited Prince Edward Island but their opinion will be read by many and will impact positively on their decision-making for future vacations.  It is a great achievement and a compliment to all of the tourism industry on Prince Edward Island.  I’d like to add my congratulations as well.”

The Chair of the Ministers’ Tourism Advisory Council, David MacKenzie echoed these sentiments and sees the accolade as a great reinforcement of the Gentle Island brand.  “We have chosen to use the words, ‘The Gentle Island,’ to sum up why tourists should choose PEI above other destinations.  It’s a phrase that stems from the landscape, the people and the tourism experience on Prince Edward Island.  This Condé Nast award suggests that their readers agree.”
