SandLand Extended Until October 15

(Charlottetown, PE - August 28, 2007) – Due to the overwhelming response, Tourism Charlottetown has decided to keep SandLand open until October 15, 2007, maximizing on the shoulder season traffic expected from the Prince Edward Island Marathon, motor coach visitors, and incoming cruise ships.

Over 26,000 visitors have enjoyed the artistry of SandLand presented by Northumberland Ferries, well surpassed the forecasted number of 15,000 for the season. The attraction features 20 Sand Sculptures all made of 100% Island sand.  Each sculpture represents a different Prince Edward Island story, from confederation to harness racing, from shipbuilding to fisheries; even farming and golf are featured.

The phenomenon of SandLand is, it is made of entirely of sand and water,” says Kim Green, CEO Tourism Charlottetown and The PEI Convention Partnership. “It took eight sculptors eight weeks to build SandLand.  Local laborers built forms, which were then filled with sand and water, tampered and left to harden.  The forms were then removed and the sand was sculpted into beautiful stories of Prince Edward Island. It is truly a work of art, something you just need to experience for yourself.”

Visitors are especially enjoying Sand School, interactive Sand demonstrations with our resident sculptors Abe and Ben Waterman.  They are so popular we have added an extra demonstration each day at 5:00 p.m.

SandLand is located directly beside The Walk and Sea Charlottetown Visitor Centre at Founders' Hall, 6 Prince Street; Historic Charlottetown Waterfront.  Tickets can be purchased inside the Visitor Centre at the Admissions Desk.
