Celebrating Music in the Streets of Charlottetown

(Charlottetown, PE – July 23, 2007) – Always on Stage Program presented by Online Support is in full swing. Daily there are celebrations on the street all summer long until September 4, 2007.  Live outdoor entertainment can be heard at three different downtown stages, located next to Founders’ Hall (6 Prince Street), Victoria Row, and outside The Shops of Confederation Court Mall on Queen Street.

"We are absolutely thrilled to sponsor this exciting series with Tourism Charlottetown,” says Kent MacPhee, Executive Vice President/Chief Personnel Officer. ”Locals and tourists alike get to truly enjoy the many talented Island artists "on stage". With all proceeds going to Island amateur talent, it is a sponsorship opportunity that suits us to a tee. Full marks to organizers for the creation of this innovative summer series. We hope to be back next year with an even bigger and better role in promoting this wonderful event"

“It takes $50,000 to present this program to the public free of charge.  The generous contribution of On-Line Support as Title Sponsor will go 100% toward paying the local entertainers.  This program would not be possible without the support of our private sector partners,” reports Kim Green, CEO for Tourism Charlottetown.

The full schedule of stage activity and a city map outlining the locations of all three entertainment pods can be found online at www.alwaysonstage.net or in person at the New Walk and Sea Charlottetown Visitor Centre at Founders’ Hall.

Walk, Sea, and Listen as the streets fill with all musical genres such as jazz, classical, fiddle, step, a cappella, and pipes & drums.  Depending on the day you may get a glimpse of Canada’s fastest oyster shucker, sculptor demos, and historical re-enactments as they introduce audiences to Islanders and our culture.

Background

The City Stages Charlottetown Youth Music Festival was the inspiration and foundation for the Always on Stage Program presented by Online Support. The mission of City Stages, founded by Chris Budhan in 1998, is to further the level at which young Canadian artists perform through the provision of mentorship, education and summer employment in the student's chosen field.

The program has educated more than 100 student musicians to date and presented in excess of 2,000 performances to the delight of residents and visitors. Moreover, City Stages has presented numerous internationally-acclaimed artists through its Artist in Residence mentorship program each year.

Always on Stage presented by Online Support is a project of Tourism Charlottetown and City Stages Youth Musical Festival.
