Whether you want to be sitting indoors at the theatre or lounging on an outdoor patio there is something in this city for you. Charlottetown is busting at the seams with culture and live entertainment.

The Charlottetown Festival, named a Top 100 Event in North America for 2007 by the American Bus Association makes the Confederation Centre of the Arts “a-must-do” when visiting Charlottetown.

The Charlottetown Festival at the Confederation Centre of the Arts runs June 12 to September 27, opening with Canada’s longest running musical Anne of Green Gables – The Musical™, back for its 44th season. Based on L.M. Montgomery’s novel, this family classic relives the poignant and funny story of Anne Shirley, the spunky, red-headed orphan who comes to PEI hoping to find a happy home.

Also playing on the Mainstage, America Strikes Back! British Invasion II, a musical revue. British and American hits and hit makers collide in one "smashing good show"! Onstage at the Charlottetown Festival selected dates from June 18 to August 29, 2008.

In the Studio Theatre, two actors play 13 roles in the Tony Award nominated Stones In His Pocket. Witty, funny, sparkling with surprising touches of poignancy, the play is terrific contemporary Irish theatre. Stones in His Pocket plays selected dates from July 15 to August 29, 2008.

Across the street from the Confederation Centre of the Arts is The Mack, the Centre’s cabaret theatre. Selected dates from July 3 - September 20, 2008, see The Ballad of Stompin’ Tom. Relive the music and life of “the man of the land,” Stompin’ Tom Connors. This play portrays his journey in story and song.

Take advantage of the FREE lunchtime performance by the theatre’s young company on the outdoor amphitheatre located at the back of the Centre; and inside at night, is where you will find “Late Night at Mavor’s. Join the Festival cast as they strut their stuff in a late night variety show of singing, dancing, and sometimes comedy.

Charlottetown hosts an increasing number of outdoor summer festivals that bring culture right out into the streets. You will find that throughout the city streets something is Always on Stage. Three different entertainment pods are sporadically placed throughout the City featuring a wide genre of entertainment, music and dance. Visit the Charlottetown Visitor’s Information Centre to pick up your Always on Stage map and schedule. In addition, venues like Carrefour, Beaconsfield, Benevolent Irish Society, and The Guild , provide an ongoing series of concerts, with music that ranges from classical to contemporary.
